Smuggler Busted For Not Declaring Nearly 10 Lbs. Of Pork

EL PASO — Customs agents working inspections at the Stanton St. international port of entry seized a nearly 9 pound pork ham from an El Paso driver crossing back over from Mexico Wednesday afternoon.
The 72-year-old driver did not declare the meat and was using the Dedicated-Commuter Lanes when he attempted to smuggle the prohibited meat into El Paso. He was assessed a $500 fine and his DCL privileges were revoked.
“There is a zero tolerance policy for violations at El Paso’s dedicated commuter lanes, which are part of CBP’s trusted traveler program,” said Arthur Gonzales, acting El Paso Port Director for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in El Paso.
