City Council, Mass Transit Allocate Funds For Rapid-Transit Fleet

EL PASO — City council and members of the Mass Transit Board came to an agreement to further efforts at streamlining public transportation in an eco-friendly manner.

The city and board have already purchased 55 ‘compressed natural gas’ powered buses. Tuesday’s meeting saw city representatives and transit board members allocating an additional $16.6 million to acquire 40 more.

The new fleet of buses is expected to arrive in early 2009,
