EU maritime force says it is shadowing a Bangladesh-flagged ship seized by pirates off Somali coast

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — The European Union’s maritime security force says it is tracking a Bangladesh-flagged cargo vessel that was boarded by pirates this week off the Somali coast. The EU force, known as Operation ATALANTA, says that the MV Abdullah’s 23 crew members have been taken hostage but that they are safe. It says an EU ship is “shadowing” the cargo ship as it heads to the Somali coast. The British military says several people boarded and took control of the MV Abdullah in the Indian Ocean nearly 700 miles (1,100 kilometers) east of Somalia’s coastal capital Mogadishu. British maritime security company Ambrey says the cargo ship was going from Mozambique to United Arab Emirates.
