Details Released In Telles Conspiracy Scandal

El Paso — A former El Paso City Representative pleaded guilty to two bribery charges.

Raymond Telles made the plea Friday, but Judge Frank Montalvo didn’t release the information until Tuesday.

Telles now faces the possibility of dozens of years in a federal prison and a $500,000 fine.

According to court papers, Telles admitted to trying to defraud the Socorro Independent School District.

Telles pled that between September 2002 and June 2007, some members of the SISD allowed their votes to be bought. He also pled that during that time he helped assure that several bids were rigged in favor of certain vendors.

Court papers also said that between January 1, 2007 and May 17, 2007 Telles and others agreed to pay members of the city-run Commissioner’s Court in exchange for their vote.

In all, seven people have pleaded guilty in connection to this case.
