Former Teacher Arrested For Allegedly Fondling Student

A former teacher at Ft. Bliss Elementary School in El Paso was arrested Wednesday for allegedly fondling a child.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Eduardo Rivas is charged with abusive sexual contact of a minor. The FBI told KVIA that Rivas was a fifth grade teacher at the school. The investigation has been underway for a week and a half.

The alleged incident, involving a 12-year-old, occurred on Fort Bliss Property.

Rivas’ initial appearance will be Thursday afternoon. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison.

The El Paso Independent School District confirmed Rivas resigned Monday, March 17. He has been with the district since 1980.
