Commissioners Fight For Veteran’s Healthcare

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso County Commissioners are getting involved in the fight to improve veteran’s healthcare as more and more U.S. troops leave the military with damaged bodies and minds.

Several letters from commissioners court were written to public officials like Congressman Ciro Rodriguez, Senator John Cornyn, and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, requesting an independent study into our local veterans healthcare system. According to commissioners, these letters ensure our local veterans get the highest quality of healthcare the nation can provide.

An internal Department of Veterans Affairs report lists the El Paso VA outpatient clinic among the worst in the country. This is why county commissioners said it’s clear that we must do more for our veterans.

Fort bliss is expected to grow by over 20,000 new troops, which means about 60,000 soldiers and family members.

Commissioners said that’s why an updated assessment of the needs of the veterans in our region is urgently needed.
