ABC-7 First Alert Continues: Rain and Storms Before a Much Nicer Halloween

EL PASO, Texas — El Paso and the surrounding Borderland are in for an active weather pattern heading into Halloween, with rain and thunderstorms expected before a much drier and more pleasant holiday weekend.

Another Pacific disturbance will move into the Borderland from the west tonight, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms that could continue well into the overnight hours.

Some storms may produce periods of heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash flooding, particularly across Luna, Grant and Hidalgo counties in southwestern New Mexico. Residents in these areas should remain weather-aware and use caution around flooded roadways.

The good news? Halloween is shaping up to be a treat!

A brief ridge of high pressure moving between weather systems will help bring drier conditions just in time for Saturday's trick-or-treating festivities. Expect partly cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Overall, it looks like favorable weather for families and children heading out to collect Halloween candy.

However, the quieter conditions won't last long.

As November begins, the clocks fall back one hour early Sunday morning, and another upper-level disturbance, accompanied by a cold front, will move across the region.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop west of Deming Sunday afternoon before quickly spreading eastward across the Borderland. Strong mid-level winds will help push this system through the region Sunday night and into Monday morning.

Rain chances will gradually decrease, with most showers expected to move out by midday Monday. Behind the departing system, a drier weather pattern will begin to take shape and could persist through the end of next week.

Temperatures early next week will remain near or slightly below seasonal averages, bringing a cooler feel to the Borderland.
