NEW YORK (AP) — Marchers chanted for the release of hostages in Gaza at a New York City parade for Israel that drew thousands of people under heightened security. Sunday’s parade along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan toned down the usual celebratory atmosphere of the annual event. The parade was the first large-scale Jewish event in the city since the war started in October. Organizers pointed to the ongoing conflict and the continued captivity of hostages in what was dubbed the Israel Day on Fifth parade. Security for the event was heavy, and hundreds of police officers lined the route.
