EL PASO, Texas — At a meeting Tuesday, El Paso ISD officials approved changes to attendance boundaries for Westside and Northeast schools.
As many as 500 students from Barron Elementary in Northeast El Paso may be moving to a new school. They are likely to be transferred to Tom Lea Elementary or Bradley Elementary.
Changes in EPISD will also affect several elementary schools on the Westside near Franklin High School.
But the changes aren’t limited to the El Paso school district. A handful of parents at Drugan School opposedchanges proposed by Socorro ISD.”Before, we used to go to Sierra Vista and just as they were getting used to that school they changed them over here so it’s going to be the same thing all over again,” said Juan Soto as he was picking up his kids.Soto said his kids used to be students at Sierra Vista Elementary. Then they were moved by the district to Drugan School. Now, Soto is upset that some students from Drugan are set to be moved back to Sierra Vista.Soto wasn’t alone.”My son (was) first in Sierra Vista and they moved to John Drugan and now they want to move to another school — so it’s very (confusing),” said Drugan parent Miriam Ybarra. The districts say these changes are necessary as the city grows fast.Parents with questions concerning their students in Socorro ISD are asked to call the Office of Student Services at 937-0053.Parents with questions concerning their students in El Paso ISD are asked to call their child’s school.
