Mexico’s Violence Prompts National Attention

El Paso — The discovery of a gruesome grave is the latest in Juarez’s ongoing violence. Chihuhua state police discovered nine bodies in the desert outskirts of Juarez. Authorities have not identified the bodies of seven men and two women.
It’s incidents like this that garnered the attention of national media organizations. City Representative Emma Acosta sat down for an interview with CNN Saturday afternoon.
“Just yesterday, I was talking to an entrepreneur in Juarez, where she used to employ 1000 people,” Acosta told CNN. “Now that’s gone down to 100 people.”
Acosta says the violence is hurting the economy of both El Paso and Juarez. And if U.S. cities ignore what is going on in Mexico, it will only hurt the welfare of border cities like El Paso.
“Although El Paso is the third safest city in the nation, we must continue to deal with trade,” Acosta said.
