Mexican Soldiers Capture Gulf Cartel Hit Man
Mexicansoldierscaptured alleged Gulf Cartel hit man Sigifrido Najera Talamantes early Fridayin the northern city of Saltillo, according to army spokesman General Luis Bolivar.
Authorities said Najera Talamantes is suspected of killing several soldiers in retaliation for a government crackdown as well as orchestrating an attack on a U.S. consulate.
Soldiers detained three men and three women in addition to Najera Talamantes. One of those detained was a woman named Yaneth Garcia, who was allegedly an accountant for the Gulf Cartel.
In addition, the soldiers seized 10.1 million pesos, equivalent to 713,000 U.S. dollars, as well as eight assault rifles, seven grenades, a grenade launcher, and two bulletproof vehicles.
Charges are pending against the suspects, who remain in custody.
