Man Finds Puppies In Bag In Dumpster
EL PASO, Texas — One ABC-7 viewer says he was very moved and disgusted after finding three puppies inside a dumpster.
He wants to know who would put living puppies inside a plastic bag and leave them to die.
Bobby Martinez says he often throws away trash at a dumpster at his apartment complex and never expected to find his new best friend in there.
Over the weekend, Bobby Martinez was throwing away trash in his apartment’s dumpster when he says he heard something.
“It sounded like almost a cat like, but it didn’t sound like it was crying like hungry, it sounded like it was in pain or something. Like almost air or something like a bag decompressing, ” said Martinez.
It was a gruesome find. “Intertwined bags and those bags were within other bags, kind of like three or four bags tied up to each other. Really thick bags like the department store bags.”
Whatever the reason, three newborn puppies were no longer of any use to someone and were literally tossed in the trash.
“I tore the bags up and I saw there were two moving and as soon as I tore them up I could feel them real hot, I knew they were going to be dehydrated for sure. That’s why I was kind of panicky, I didn’t know what to do.”
By the time they found a veterinarian one of the dogs was dead. The other was so weak, it also didn’t make it. And then there’s Mexie.
“Basically nurturing her, we bought a baby bottle from Petsmart, taking care of her, feeding her milk and stuff like that.”
Thinking back, Martinez remembers a couple he’d never seen before in the complex.
“I saw a van, it had Mexico plates from Chihuahua.”
Then he saw the van quickly stop by the dumpster.
“I kind of put two and two together and I saw that the dogs were on top and it had to be her. So, right away I’m thinking man, she’s heartless, heartless,” he said.
While Martinez doesn’t know for sure who did this, he says he would like them to be charged with animal cruelty.
“Understand that the animals have a life and they deserve to at least to make an effort to at least ask someone, hey, can you take care of this dog…I’m sure there’s someone out there.”
Martinez is hoping any veterinarian can help him out with some care for three-day-old Mexie.
And he urges anyone who sees dogs or any live animal that may have been left behind to please call the El Paso Humane Society at 532-6971.
