Trial of ex-politician in killing of Vegas reporter opens with video of attacker ‘lying in wait’

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Video of a person wearing bright orange slipping into the yard of a Las Vegas reporter’s home opened the trial of a former elected official charged with murder in the death of the veteran investigative journalist during Labor Day weekend 2022. Trial began Wednesday for Robert Telles, formerly the Democratic administrator of a Clark County office of unclaimed estates. Prosecutors say Telles was the person in orange — and that he killed Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German after German wrote articles critical of Telles and his office. Police say DNA from Telles was found beneath German’s fingernails. Telles has pleaded not guilty.
