Man charged with assault for allegedly hitting person with his car

Update (October 4, 2024): El Paso Police arrested 32-year-old Rene Martinez and charged him with aggravated assault. They booked him into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $350,000 bond.

"Police were informed that a fight had occurred just before the collision and that the vehicle had fled," police officials explained Friday. "The investigation revealed the crash was intentional, and the Crimes Against Persons unit responded to investigate the incident. Investigators identified Rene Martinez as the person who intentionally struck the victim in the parking lot. The victim was critically injured and transported to a local hospital."

Police identify the victim as 23-year-old Juan Flores Jr.


EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- One person is recovering after being hit by a car in east El Paso, early Monday morning.

El Paso Police say it happened at 1441 North Zaragoza Rd. and was first reported at 2:17 a.m.

They say that the person sustained serious injuries.

Our ABC-7 crew says the incident happened inside a shopping center.

Traffic is not being affected.

Special Traffic Investigators were called out to investigate the scene.
