Man Wanted In Crime Tries To Turn Self In; Leaves After No Sheriff’s Deputy Available To Process Him

A 17-year-old man wanted in connection with family violence incidents tried to turn himself in to authorities on Monday but eventually walked away when no one was there to book him.

Vincent Escobar walked into the El Paso County Detention Facility Downtown at 6:30 p.m. Monday and offered to turn himself in after seeing himself on TV as a wanted man. Read his profile on Manhunt Monday here.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office officials said that at that time there were no deputies in the facility to book Escobar on his outstanding warrant for Assault (Family Violence) and he was told he could wait until deputies arrived. Escobar walked out of the facility.

Escobar was spotted at El Paso Community College at 10700 Gateway East on Tuesday and detained by EPCC police and turned over to the sheriff’s office. A short time later, he was taken into custody and eventually booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Escobar bonded out of jail just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Sheriff’s officials are looking into why Escobar was not initially arrested when he first attempted to surrender to authorities.
