El Paso Opera Pays Tribute To Sept. 11, Juarez Victims

The event will be held this Saturday, on the ninth year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The El Paso Opera’s director David Grabarkewitz told ABC-7 the performance will be used as a tribute to those killed in the 9/11 attack, as well as victims of the drug war in Juarez.

Grabarkewitz said, “We’re using the power of music to speak up politically, and emotionally for our people.”

The names of both the 9/11 and Juarez violence victims will be read during the performance.

For the El Paso Opera Saturday’s performance is also a renaissance of sorts. After nearly shutting its doors about a year-and-half ago because of mounting debt, this performance is putting the company back on the map. Grabarkewitz said they’ve been able to bring the Opera’s debt from $90,000 to less than $15,000.

Tickets are still available, and every seat in the house goes for $25.
