Early voting begins today in El Paso, what to know before you cast your vote
EL PASO, TX (KVIA) — Early voting kicks off today with 33 locations open across the El Paso County. Voters can cast their ballots at any location, regardless of where they live.
The early voting period will run for two weeks, including weekends, leading up to Election Day. Voting hours vary by location, and voters can check the county’s website for wait times that will be updated every 30 minutes.
Voters are reminded to bring one of the seven acceptable forms of ID:
- Texas Driver’s License
- Texas Election Identification Certificate
- Texas Personal Identification Card
- Texas Handgun License
- United States Military Identification Card
- United States Citizenship Certificate
- United States Passport (book or card)
If voters don’t have any of these, they may use supporting documents such as:
- A government document that shows your name and an address, including your Voter Registration Certificate
- Current utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government check
- Paycheck
- A certified domestic (from a U.S. state or territory) birth certificate or a document confirming birth admissible in a court of law which establishes your identity (which may include a foreign birth document)
Election officials say they are anticipating a high voter turnout, “Please be patient. It takes her poll workers five minutes to check you in. The ballot is going to be long so voters will be at the express vote machines maybe for like eight, ten minutes, depending on how long they take with the ballot,” Melissa Martin, Elections Information & Resources Coordinator told ABC-7.
To minimize time at the polls, voters are encouraged to use the “My Voter Dashboard” on the county’s website, where they can view and print a personalized sample ballot. “You can go ahead and print it. Go ahead and use that as reference when you head to the polls,” said Martin.
