Flu Vaccinations Available Now
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 41,821 Americans were hospitalized and 2,117 were killed by the H1N1 strain of the flu during the last flu season.
It’s statistics like those that Dusty Warden, outreach coordinator for Immunize El Paso, hopes will prompt El Pasoans to get their flu shots early.
“Today is the day to get vaccinated. The sooner the better,” Warden told ABC-7.
“If you withhold vaccination, you might be exposed to the flu bug and it might not be as advantageous. So get it now before the bug’s going around.”
Immunize El Paso, a nonprofit organization, has 25,000 doses of shot and mist flu vaccinations already in stock. It also opened its new eastside clinic at 1580 George Dieter Drive on Monday.
“There are not a whole lot of clinics north of the freeway, so this is a great option,” said Warden.
“They can come by before school, after school, or even on the weekends, so it’s going to be very convenient.”
Immunize El Paso will be partnering with the Texas Vaccines for Children Program to assist in helping increasing flu immunization coverage among children across El Paso.
Parents of uninsured children, or people who cannot afford their co-pays could receive a flu shot at a discounted rate of $10.
