Man Injured In Ruidoso Biker Rally Clings To Life At El Paso Hospital
A handful of accidents during the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally resulted in injuries, including one incident in Ruidoso that has a victim clinging to life, according to a report in the Ruidoso News.
John Jones, 33, of Artesia, received life-threatening injuries when his motorcycle went down in an effort to avoid a pickup truck that was turning onto Mechem Drive.
According to Ruidoso police, the accident happened Friday at 9:10 p.m. The pickup truck was making a left turn from Terrace Drive onto Mechem Drive. Jones was operating the northbound motorcycle when he braked hard and the bike went down. The motorcycle and its two occupants skidded to a stop before striking the truck.
Jones, and a passenger, Elsa Munoz, 25, of Roswell, were taken by ambulance to the Lincoln County Medical Center. Munoz medical attention in the emergency room and was later released. Jones was transferred by an air-ambulance to University Medical Center of El Paso with critical head injuries. Ruidoso police said he was still alive Tuesday. Jones and Munoz were not wearing helmets.
The accident is still being investigated and citations are pending against the driver of the pickup truck, H.P. Hale, 80, of Ruidoso Downs. The rally occurred from Sept. 15-19.
