Tips For Buying Sun Bowl Tickets On Secondary Market

Get out those credit cards and turn on that computer.

That is just about the only way you can snag tickets to this year’s Hyundai Sun Bowl matchup between Notre Dame and Miami.

“We came up to get some tickets for the Sun Bowl and we saw that heartbreaking blue sign that’s taped on the door,” Carlos Duran said. “Sold out.”

Duran was one of dozens of people who learned the hard way that local tickets are no longer available for this year’s game.

“They were completely sold out and it’s only been what…a day?” Duran said.

The lines started forming at the UTEP ticket office by 6:30 a.m. Monday morning. By noon, all of the tickets were sold out.

“I guess I’m gonna have to see if I can scalp them somewhere,” Duran said.

It is not illegal to sell tickets for a profit in Texas. They are available on websites such as StubHub and Craigslist. But you may have to dig deep even for the cheap tickets.

“The cheapest I saw were like $65 or something and those were the ones at the very top,” John Clark said.

El Paso police warn buyers to beware and to make sure they know who they are dealing with when they purchase tickets.

“Try to buy them from someone who’s not trying to meet you at a corner store,” Det. Mike Baranyay said. “Ask them to show you their driver’s license so you can get a number. Get a license plate on the vehicle that they’re meeting you in.”

Baranyay said it’s common for scammers to make copies of paper tickets.

“That bar code’s gonna work one time and one time only so first person in the door with that ticket gets in,” Baranyay said. “Everybody after that is gonna get denied entry.”

Tickets are being sold on eBay. Check out some of the listings here.

Tickets also are available on StubHub.com
