Teen Accused Of Threatening To Kill Sheriff’s Deputies
El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 19-year-old Jonathan Hernandez near the 14500 block of Greg Drive in far east El Paso Friday night on multiple charges.
Authorities said they were called to a skate park in the area in reference to possible drug activity and found Hernandez in a white pickup smoking marijuana.
When deputies arrived, they said Hernandez began driving away. The deputy pulled the truck over and said the driver became belligerent and showed aggression towards the officers.
Deputies said they smelled alcohol on the man and began placing Hernandez under arrest on suspicion of DWI.
According to a sheriff’s report, while in handcuffs, Hernandez lunged and kicked the deputies, but they were able to regain control of the teen and placed him in the back seat of the patrol car.
Hernandez then kicked out the back window of the car, according to deputies.
Deputies said they shackled Hernandez to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
Hernandez then threatened to “kill” the deputies because he said he was friends with the teen who allegedly shot and killed himself with an officers gun back in February, according to police.
The deputies said the man tried to escape again while in route to the Montana Patrol Station.
Despite being handcuffed and shackled, police said Hernandez managed to unbuckle his seat belt and crawl out of the cruiser’s broken window while the car was still moving.
The subject was once again subdued and had to be accompanied by a sheriff’s deputy in the backseat for the rest of the journey.
Hernandez was eventually booked into the El Paso County Jail Annex on multiple charges.
