Update: Sheriff’s Officials Release Names In Deadly Canutillo Crash
El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has released the names and conditions of those injured in the crash that killed a 9-month-old baby Saturday morning.
The crash was a result of negligence on behalf of the child’s grandmother, 59-year-old Maria Honesto, sheriff’s officials said. Officials said the child was in the front seat in a baby bouncer and not secured in a child safety seat.
Honesto, who was driving a truck, is listed in critical but stable condition at an area hospital. She had surgery over the weekend.
Emilio Honesto, Maria Honesto’s grandson, died from injuries sustained in the crash while en route to the hospital.
Honesto’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and hit a Chrysler Sebring, injuring both occupants, said sheriff’s officials. The driver of the Sebring, 24-year-old, Amanda Sanchez, underwent surgery on Sunday and is in stable condition at an area hospital. The passenger of the Sebring, 47-year-old Blanca Cano, was recently released from an area hospital. She sustained minor injuries.
Special Traffic Investigators are still investigating the crash, and charges are still pending against Maria Honesto.
