The ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The University of Texas at El Paso will bestow the 100,000th degree in its 97 year history during the spring 2011 commencement ceremonies on May 14 at the Don Haskins Center.
University officials decided earlier this year to recognize the entire graduation class as recipients of the 100,000th degree.
?Awarding UTEP?s 100,000th degree marks a major milestone in our quest to become the first national research university serving a 21st century student demographic,? said UTEP President Diana Natalicio. ?Reaching this milestone demonstrates the huge impact that UTEP has had on this region, the State of Texas and the nation as we prepare graduates who are ready to make a positive difference in a world that asks more of us than ever before.?
Among the special activities the University planned to celebrate this milestone are the ?100,000: Every Degree Has a Story? I-10 billboard campaign, a three-day Grad Fair where graduation candidates could order their regalia, invitations and purchase UTEP alumni gear, and the videotaping of hundreds of graduates who shared their personal testimonials of achievement that will be broadcasted in the Haskins Center before and after commencement ceremonies.
Additionally, each candidate at this historical event will receive a free commemorative 100,000 Degree Medallion to wear proudly during the ceremony.
Among the approximately 2,600 graduates expected to walk across stage during the three ceremonies will be 43 doctoral candidates.
The Three Commencement Ceremony Schedules:
9 a.m., College of Liberal Arts (to include candidates from the former University College)
2 p.m., the colleges of Education and Business Administration
7 p.m., the colleges of Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences, the School of Nursing and the UT Co-op Programs
All ceremonies will include undergraduate and graduate degrees.
