UTEP Student Pleads Guilty To Downloading, Possessing Child Porn
United States Attorney John E. Murphy and Special Agent in Charge Manuel Oyola-Torres, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations in El Paso, announced that a 26-year-old University of Texas at El Paso student faces up to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to downloading and possessing child pornography, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office news release.
Appearing before United States District Judge Frank Montalvo on Thursday, May 19, 26-year-old Luis Enriquez-Alonso, a Mexican citizen residing in El Paso, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornograpy. By pleading guilty, Enriquez admitted that he used two individual Internet Protocol (IP) addresses-one at home, the other at the university-to download child pornography
On February 18, 2011, ICE HSI agents, along with investigators from the Texas Department of Public Safety, executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence. Authorities recovered two laptop computers belonging to the defendant as well as other computer related media.
A forensics examination of the confiscated items revealed the presence of more than 5,400 images and 128 videos depicting child pornography.
Enriquez-Alonso remains in federal custody pending sentencing which is scheduled for July 20, 2011, before Judge Montalvo.
