El Paso Police: Store’s Loss Prevention Officers Charged With Theft

El Paso Police’s Criminal Investigation’s Division have arrested two loss prevention officers for their alleged involvement in several thefts at a Lower Valley El Paso K-Mart.

Jose Vincent Lamas, 30, of the 2800 block of Idalia and Luis Alberto Mier, 25, of the 5900 block of Marlin, have charged been charged with two counts of theft over $1,500 and under $20,000. Police said items stolen include several flat screen televisions, tools, and other miscellaneous electronic devices.

Detectives began their investigation after a tip was received indicating there were several internal thefts occurring at the K-Mart in the 400 block of South Zaragoza. As the investigation proceeded, police were able to identify Mier and Lamas, who were employed by K-Mart as loss prevention officers, as alleged co-conspirators in these thefts, according to police.

Both men were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on Friday, May 20. They had bonds set at $20,000. This investigation will continue and additional arrests and or charges are possible, police said.
