Teen Leads Deputies In High Speed Pursuit, Foot Chase
ate Monday night 05/23 11:45 PM, a Sheriff?s Deputy patrolling the area of the 7700 block of South Desert Blvd. observed a Grey BMW 323i traveling swerving / failing to travel in a single. The Sheriff?s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on the said vehicle at about the 7000 block of South desert as the vehicle momentarily stopped in the left lane of travel & suddenly sped off at a high rate of speed. The Sheriff?s Deputy gave chase & continued following the vehicle which was being driven recklessly at high speeds.
The vehicle came to an abrupt halt at the 840 block of Elmwood, El Paso County, TX as the vehicle turned into a dead end street. The male driver exited the vehicle & attempted to flee on foot but was chased down by Sheriff?s Deputies assisting in the pursuit. He was taken into custody without further incident. Deputies immediately noticed the driver was intoxicated. He was identified as ISAIAH PORTILLO (17) of ANTHONY, NM.
The entire chase lasted about 9 minutes, according to SO Unit dash radars, PORTILLO exceeded speeds of over 100 mph during the chase. There was light traffic & nor pedestrians near the roadways during the pursuit. There were also no reports of injuries or property damage attributed to this incident.
PORTILLO was placed under arrest for EVADING ARREST / DETENTION W/ VEHICLE. He was booked & remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $3,000 BOND.
