Previous Story: By Stephanie Valle Four people were rushed to hospitals after a wreck in far east El Paso Wednesday night. Two of them have serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.
The collision happened at 11:20 p.m. in the intersection of the southbound lanes of Joe Battle Boulevard and Montana Avenue. An El Paso Police Department spokesman told ABC-7 a red Nissan Tiida was making a left turn from the westbound lanes of Montana onto Joe Battle when it collided with a silver Toyota Corolla in the intersection.
The Nissan sustained the brunt of the damage to the front and back passenger side of the vehicle. The three people in that car were taken to the hospital. Both passengers have serious enough injuries that police called officers from the Special Traffic Investigations unit to the scene to gather evidence.
The driver of the Toyota was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Because STI was combing the scene for evidence, both cars remained in part of the road well into the morning. Police cars blocked the eastbound lanes of Montana as well as the southbound lanes of Joe Battle until 6:45 a.m. Thursday. Baranyay said investigators wanted to unblock the intersection before morning traffic picked up.
Police have not said if either driver was speeding or intoxicated at the time of the wreck. Investigators are still determining who is at fault. No charges have been filed at this point.
