Large Fire in Tornillo Destroys Empty Home

El Paso County Sheriff’s officials say Lower Valley fire departments have extinguished a large, smokey fire in Tornillo.

The fire broke out shortly before 1pm Tuesday afternoon along the 19000 block of Chamizo Street in Tornillo.

According to fire officials on site, the Chamizo St. fire in Tornillo involves a vacant home that was fully engulfed in flames. Sheriff’s Officials tell ABC-7, the Fabens Fire Department had run out of water at the scene and more support had been requested.

The fire was extinguished shortly after 230pm. According to officials on scene, the fire was caused by someone burning trash on the property.

As for the other fire, officials say that was an incorrect report. Initially, the fire had been reported to be along the 12000 block of Alameda. That address was the site of another massive fire that broke out last Thursday night. That fire took several hours to extinguish, and had fire crews responding from around far-east El Paso County area.

Calls into the ABC-7 Newsroom reported a ‘huge’ column of smoke; however that fire may have been burning just across the border in Mexico.
