City Supports Franklin Mountains Trailheads
The franklin mountains are one of the many natural treasures in the borderland. City council approved a plan to preserve pedestrian access through newly designated trailheads. The iconic mountains will soon have more foot traffic and visitors, thanks to a decision made by city council to provide new access to trails. “We have identified with State Parks the most important trailheads,” Chairman of Open Space Advisory Board, Charlie Wakeem said. “And will implement that plan.” The board identified more than a dozen trailheads. Seven of them are high-priority because they’re on city property. Thunder Bird, Redd Road at Helen of Troy, Palisades, Robinson at Kingery, Ojo de Agua Park, Chuck Heinrich Park, North Stanton at Thousand Steps, and Lomas del Sol Park. Eight other medium and lower-priority locations are included, located on private property. The trailheads will now head to the public service board, which will review the designated areas that are managed by their department.
