Police Investigate Drive-By Shooting In East El Paso

The El Paso Police Department’s gang unit is investigating an early morning shooting.

Police officials said officers were called out to the 10600 block of Birthstone Drive around 4:09 Saturday morning.

Investigators said the victim, described only as a 20-year-old Hispanic man, had been involved in a fight at another east side location.

When he arrived later on Birthstone, officers said a dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside the car fired a bullet at the victim, striking him in the leg.

The man was taken to Del Sol Medical Center. Police described his injuries as “non-life threatening.”

The investigation continues.
