UTEP Paired With Clemson in Opening Round of Hawaii Tournament

EL PASO, TEXAS ? The UTEP men?s basketball team will meet Clemson in opening round action of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tournament pairings were announced on Wednesday by ESPN Regional Television (ERT).

The Miners (25-10, 11-5 Conference USA last season) and the Tigers (22-12, 9-7 ACC) will square off at 1 p.m. MT. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.

Clemson returns three starters from last year?s NCAA Tournament team ? junior forward/center Devin Booker (8.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg), senior guard Tanner Smith (7.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg) and senior guard Andre Young (11.1 ppg, 3.0 apg).

UTEP?s second game of the tournament will be played on Dec. 23 versus either Kansas State (23-11, 10-6 Big 12) or Southern Illinois (13-19, 5-13 MVC). ESPNU will have coverage of that game as well.

The tournament will conclude on Christmas Day. Other participating teams include host Hawaii, Auburn, Long Beach State and Xavier.
