NM Governor Calls For Special Legislative Session
The ABC-7 New Mexico Mobile Newsroom has learned Governor Susana Martinez has called for a special session of the legislature, which may be held as early as September.
Special sessions called are at the discretion of the governor. Typically, a session can last two weeks. It costs $50,000 of taxpayer money per day to hold the session. The last one cost more than $700,000.
Some of the topics that could be considered are drivers licenses for immigrants and allowing state and local governments to ban the sale of fireworks during extreme drought.
The governor’s office indicated the issues to be discussed and the exact dates will be decided within the next week.
