UTEP?s Floyd to Be Inducted into Iowa State Hall of Fame
EL PASO, TEXAS ? UTEP Basketball Coach Tim Floyd is one of five individuals who will be enshrined into the Iowa State Hall of Fame on Sept. 2. The ceremony will take place at the Gateway Center Hotel in Ames, Iowa, and the inductees will be honored at halftime of the Iowa State-Northern Iowa football game on Sept. 3.
?I am so very honored, given the great coaches and players that have been there over the years,? Floyd said. ?It’s a special time in our life. It provides a great opportunity to see old friends, and we share nothing but great memories. We’re so grateful that we’ve been remembered and we’re looking forward to the weekend.?
The Iowa State Hall of Fame was established in 1997.
Floyd is the only coach to direct the Cyclones to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances (1995, 1996, 1997). He compiled an 81-47 record from 1994-98, the best winning percentage (.633) in school history. Three of his teams ended the season ranked in the nation’s top 20, including the 1997 squad that rose to as high as fourth in the country. ISU won a then-school record 24 games in his second season (1995-96). He was tabbed the Big Eight Coach of the Year and was runner-up for Associated Press National Coach of the Year after leading the Cyclones to their first-ever Big Eight Tournament championship.
