Man Charged In Deadly Stalled-Vehicle Crash

El Paso County Sheriff’s officials say they have charged the driver involved in a deadly pedestrian crash early Sunday morning in Horizon City.

Investigators said the victim, Ernesto Sotelo, 57, of San Elizario, was driving home from Red Sands with his wife around 1 a.m. when their vehicle, a 1988 Ford Bronco, stalled on the 14500 block of South Darrington Road.

According to officials, Sotelo got out of the SUV and was then struck by a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck. The truck then rolled onto its side.

Deputies said they tried to revive Sotelo with CPR, but were unsuccessful.

Officials said the driver of the truck, Jose Olivas, 50, was later arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

Olivas was booked into the El County Jail Annex on a bond of $111,000.

Investigators told ABC-7 toxicology results are pending.
