Borderland Parks Damaged By Wednesday’s Storms

Strong storms that moved through the borderland Wednesday left behind flooding, snapped tree branches, and even uprooted trees in local parks.

El Paso city workers spent the afternoon at Eastwood Park, also known as Album Park, with chainsaws and trucks to clear away the damage and debris left by the heavy rains and strong winds.

Heading the cleanup crew at Eastwood Park is supervisor and irrigation technician Joseph Perez, who said this is one of the busiest summers since Storm 2006 in terms of cleaning up after Mother Nature.

“When we have weather that we know is more severe than usual, we make a round to all our parks and check them for storm damage. We make sure everything is OK and that everything is safe,” said Perez.

Eastwood wasn’t the only park with damage. Palm Grove also saw trees uprooted and flooding as storms went through the area.

“We did another tree larger than this one, same situation, uprooted completely. The third one also just came right up from the ground,” said Perez.

The weather doesn’t look to be giving Perez and his crew a break anytime soon, as more strong storms are expected this week.
