Affidavit: Footprints, Spray Paint Lead Police To Arson Suspect
El Paso fire investigators say footprints, spray paint and a tattoo helped them catch the suspect in a recent spree of vehicle fires.
Edwardo Ramirez, 25, currently faces two counts of arson, according to El Paso police.
The fires happened around 2 a.m. Monday on the 3800 block of Findley in central El Paso.
ABC-7 was able to get a hold of the complaint affidavit. The document alleges one of the vehicles damaged by the flames had been stolen.
The affidavit also says police were able to trace a set of footprints from the scene to the nearby home of Ramirez’s mother, where the suspect lives.
According to the document, police reported they found Ramirez burning clothing in the backyard and that the suspect had gold and silver spray paint on his hands.
Investigators said there was fresh graffiti near the burning vehicles, painted with the same colors. Authorities also said Ramirez was found to have a tattoo on his stomach matching some of the graffiti.
In the document, fire officials said they found tools, ladders, women’s clothing and pool cleaning supplies in Ramirez’s backyard, as well.
All of it, they said, had been reporting missing from the burnt vehicles.
