Police Identify Fort Bliss Killed In Rollover

Police identified a Fort Bliss killed in a rollover wreck about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday near the airport in East-Central El Paso.

Special Traffic Investigators said 21-year-old Tyon Smith was westbound on Founders Boulevard, approaching a curve in the street, when he hit a dirt barrier.

The impact caused the 2007 Dodge pickup to rollover, ejecting Smith. The soldier was not wearing a seat belt, investigators said.

Smith was taken to University Medical Center where the 21-year-old was pronounced dead. Investigators said speed, alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt were all factors in the wreck.

Police said this is the city’s 49th traffic related fatality.
