Man Shot After Fight In Northeast El Paso, Police Say

An argument that escalated into a fight ended with a man being shot and another being arrested, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the scene of a shooting shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 6900 block of Jerico Tree Drive in Northeast El Paso.

Upon arrival, officers said they saw 21-year-old Michael James, Jr., who had been shot in the torso. The man was treated by paramedics and taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Police arrested 21-year-old Blake Bochnicek, who was at his home on the same block. He was taken into custody without incident, police said. The El Paso Police Department’s Criminalistics Section and detectives from the Crimes Against Persons Unit said that during the fight, Bochnicek pulled out a handgun and fired it at James, striking him in the tors.

Bochnicek, the 6900 block of Jerico Tree Drive, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail, with bond set at $80,000.
