Pencil Prank Sends Edgemere Elementary Student To Hospital

Ysleta Independent School District officials have confirmed that an 8-year-old student was injured last week when he sat on a pencil being held by a fellow third grader.

The pencil prank occurred last Friday at Edgemere Elementary School in East El Paso.

The injured student, whose parents did not want his name released, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance for observation.

District officials said the student has since been released from the hospital and is alright.

During the investigation of the incident, school administrators said they did not find any malicious intent on the part of the student holding the pencil.

District officials said proper disciplinary action has been taken against the student who was holding the pencil.
