EPISD: Mother Involved In Teen Fight Facing Fine

ABC-7 has learned that the mother involved in a high school fight between two teen girls is now facing a fine.

An El Paso Independent School District spokeswoman said that Imelda Islas has been cited for disorderly conduct and assault by threat.

Video posted to the Internet showed Islas’ daughter punching another girl in the face following an after-school argument outside of Franklin High School in west El Paso. The incident took place on September 28th.

Before the punch, Islas was heard telling the other teen, “Next time you call my daughter, I’m going to let her beat the crap out of you.”

Islas sent ABC-7 an email saying her child was the victim of bullying. Islas added that she was trying to stop the fight from taking place.

Karen Navarro, the mother of the girl who was punched, said the bullying claims are false and that Islas’ daughter was the aggressor.

Navarro said her daughter, who she said suffered a black eye, was given 45 days in a campus alternative program as a result of the brawl.

EPISD said Islas’ daughter is not a student at Franklin or any other district campus.
