Man Arrested After Dog Dies Of Starvation

Dona Ana County Sheriff?s investigators said they arrested a man on Thursday after his dog died of starvation.

The owner, 35-year-old Christopher P. Morales, was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention center on a $2,000 bond.

A veterinarian determined the dog was suffering from long-term starvation and dehydration. The veterinarian attempted to save the dog, but was unsuccessful.

Investigators from Dona Ana County Animal Control responded to the 400 block of Timbers in Anthony to find the dog still alive, but lethargic.

When questioned by authorities, Morales said he fed the dog a package of hot dogs on Oct. 15th and did not remember if the dog was fed after that. Morales told officials his 14-year old son was responsible for feeding the dog.

Tests on the dog revealed the 24-pound chow cross should have weighed at least 55 pounds and had no body fat.
