Police: Man Shot Stepson In The Face During Argument

Doa Ana County Sheriff’s investigators filed felony charges against a stepfather in Anthony, N.M. after a shooting early this month.

Investigators said the victim went to his parent’s home in the 100 block of Boone Circle on Oct. 2. An argument ensued between the victim and his mother over unpaid debt. Investigators said the mother was holding the victims dog and a video game as collateral.

Witnesses said the victim’s stepfather, 50-year-old Grover Herring, pointed a .357 revolver at the victim and fired a single shot, which hit the man in the jaw.

According to witnesses, Herring repeatedly claimed he did not mean to shoot his stepson and was only trying to scare him so that he would leave.

The victim was taken to an El Paso hospital for treatment. Officials said he is expected to recover.

Herring is charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault.
