Fire Rips Through Old Northpark Mall

Fire officials tell ABC-7 that more than 60 firefighters were called to the old Northpark Mall in northeast El Paso.

Emergency crews arrived at the property at Dyer and Diana shortly before 4 p.m.

According to an El Paso fire department spokesman, no injuries have been reported.

Emergency radio transmissions indicated the flames may have started somewhere on the roof. The cause is still under investigation.

Once home to stores like The Popular and the Boomerang move theater, demolition of Northpark Mall began late last month.

The City of El Paso has purchased the property and plans to re-develop the site. According to ABC-7 archives, the cost of the project is $10 million dollars, including demolition expenses.
