Man Arrested After Threatening To Commit Suicide, Barricading Himself

A man who threatened to kill himself was arrested after barricading himself and not allowing a woman in the home to leave, investigators said.

Police were responding to domestic violence call about 4 a.m. on the 1200 block of Huckleberry Street in Central El Paso.

Investigators said 29-year-old Christopher Lopez and 24-year-old Rossie Lopez had an argument, which escalated when the when Lopez grabbed a knife and threatened to kill himself. Rossie Lopez tried to take the knife away fromChristopher Lopez and received a cut on her hand. When officers arrived, Christopher Lopez was still holding the knife.

Police said Christopher Lopez was uncooperative and would not allow the woman to leave the home. When the man refused to exit the home, the SWAT team and Crisis Management Team were called to the scene.

When tactical teams arrived, Christopher Lopez, of the 8900 block of Mount Rushmore Drive, exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and family violence, a first degree felony. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail with bond set at $15,000.

There were no other reported injuries and the woman did not require any medical attention at the scene.
