UPDATE: Police Identify Driver Killed In Rollover On Loop 375

Police identified a driver who died when the the car he was driving rolled over and he was ejected shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday on Loop 375.

Police said 27-year-old Hector Alvarez Jr., of the 10400 block of Aphonia Drive, was driving north on Loop 375 when he lost control of the 1996 Chrysler Sebring on a curve and began to slide sideways towards the center cable divider. The Chrysler struck the divider and rolled over several times ejecting Alvarez, who police said was not wearing a seat belt.

There were no other vehicles involved and speed does not appear to be a factor. It is unknown if alcohol is a factor at this time.

Officers with the Special Traffic Investigations unit are investigating the possibility of a second individual who may have been a passenger in the vehicle and walked away for the collision. This investigation continues.

This is the 66th traffic death of 2011 in El Paso, compared with 59 during the same period last year.
