Rev. Jon Moore
Pastor Jon Moore refuses to allow this description to begin with anything but an expression of his gratitude for a great first year as Senior Pastor of St. Mark’s. He looks forward to many more years of serving in, with, and through this congregation.
His family includes his wife, Melani Daves Moore, along with their children: Brishen (son) and Basia (daughter). The Moore family is very excited to be in the process towards an international adoption, and look forward to welcoming another child into their family.
Living in nearby Las Cruces, NM for many years, including 8 1/2 years spent serving as pastor there, gave Jon both affection for, and familiarity with, St. Mark’s and El Paso. This affection and familiarity, along with gifts in preaching and teaching, has helped get his leadership at St. Mark’s off to a strong start.
His seminary work was carried out at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D. C., which included an emphasis in Biblical Studies. He did post-graduate work in the area of church leadership as a Lewis Fellow of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership at Wesley.
In the New Mexico Conference, Jon has been elected to be part of the delegation to the General and Jurisdictional Conferences of the United Methodist Church, and also serves as Chair of the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry, and Chair of the El Paso District Missions Committee. Jon is also frequently sought out to be a guest preacher/speaker and retreat/workshop leader.
Jon believes, and lives out the conviction, that the local church is “on purpose,” and at its best when it is built on, and acts on, the Love of God. The church is Jesus Christ’s chosen means by which he continues to bring “The Kingdom of God, near at hand” in the lives of people today.
