Scenic Drive To Be Closed New Year’s Eve For ‘Fun Run’
A section of Scenic Drive will be closed to vehicles on New Year’s Eve for a “fun run” held by Run El Paso.
The running group obtained a special privilege permit from the city of El Paso to close Scenic Drive from about Mina Perdida Road to Wheeling Street.
The stretch of Scenic Drive will be closed from about 11p.m. New Year’s Eve to about 1 a.m. so runners can use the street without vehicle traffic.
“Run two years (and) see two countries all in one night,” said Jim Weddell, the organizer of the run.
Run El Paso, which will rent barricades to block traffic, paid the city $165 in fees for the permit and for security.
The run begins at 11:45 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and is about three miles long. The event is free to the public.
