ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Weekend storms could turn severe mainly east of the Rio Grande

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- More showers and thunderstorms possible across the Borderland this weekend, with the greatest chances east of the Rio Grande Valley. Some storms could become severe, especially for Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

Another weather system moving into the region Saturday helping to trigger thunderstorms during the afternoon. Areas farther east, including Otero and Hudspeth Counties, have the highest local severe weather concerns.

Hail is expected to be the main threat, but storms could also produce gusty winds and localized flooding. While flooding is a concern, quickly moving storms and lower moisture levels should help limit that risk.

Storm chances continue Sunday, with activity possibly shifting farther east. Residents should keep an eye on changing weather conditions and check the forecast before heading outdoors.

The weather pattern is expected to turn drier Tuesday and Wednesday, giving the Borderland a break from the rain. A slight chance of showers returns Thursday and Friday as another Pacific weather system approaches.
