Man Rushes Into Burning Home To Save 4-Year-Old Sister

Officials said a mobile home went up in flames Friday night in Socorro, Texas, injuring one man.

The city of Socorro spokesman Dave Garcia said the fire began around midnight on Friday inside a mobile home on the 11000 block of Crowell Drive.

Garcia said 20-year-old Fernie Guerrero was inside the home taking care of his 4-year-old sister, Chenelle Chavez, when the fire began.

Guerrero was able to escape, but Garcia said he went back into the burning home to save the girl. Guerrero received second degree burns to his upper body and taken to a Lubbock burn center.

Garcia said the girl was treated and released from a local hospital for minor burns.

Officials said the mobile home was completely destroyed.

Fire investigators tell ABC-7 the blaze started as the result of an unattended candle in the home’s kitchen.
