Hospital’s Air Conditioning Not Working

Some patients at an El Paso hospital have been having to deal with the triple digits without air conditioning.

Several people told ABC-7 the air conditioning has been broken at Sierra Medical Center since Thursday. One woman said nurses have been calling the repair company, but so far, no one has come out to fix it.

Family members of paFloor fans were being set up Saturday to combat the heat.

“It needs to be cooler for them because they’re there already uncomfortable and it just makes it a tad bit more uncomfortable, especially with how hot it is outside,” one patient’s family member said.

Another family member said, “With the air from the floor fans, it’s not enough, especially when the patient is older, and that’s when they need more care.”

Sierra Medical Center’s CEO sent ABC-7 the following statement on Saturday:

“Sierra Medical Center is in the process of installing a new water chiller tower. This is a major facility infrastructure investment which is part of our ongoing building maintenance program to ensure our facility is equipped with new and reliable equipment. Part of the installation process did require to restart the chiller yesterday so that we could provide a comfortable setting for our patients and staff. We anticipated this process may be challenging as a result of the hot weather today so we also deployed portable cooling units to all patient and ancillary areas. The new system is operating and is cooling off the facility. Our leadership is onsite to make sure the facility remains at a comfortable setting,” Edmundo Castaeda, Sierra Medical CEO said.
